Benefits for Victorians

Unclaimed money

Each year in Victoria millions of dollars lose contact with their rightful owners. These funds are lodged with us while they wait to be claimed.

Unclaimed money includes share dividends, salaries and wages, rents and bonds, debentures and interest, unpresented cheques and trust moneys.

We also hold unclaimed winnings from Tattslotto, Intralot and TAB tickets bought in Victoria which have remained unclaimed for six months or more. This year, we processed 25,668 claims for unclaimed money, reuniting more than $14.62 million with its rightful owners.

* Legislative changes signicantly increased claims received in 2009-10 and 2010-11. In 2011-12, claims reduced partly due to the SRO no longer administering superannuation entitlements.

FHOG and other bonuses

Eligible first-home buyers are offered a duty reduction when they buy a new home valued up to $600,000.

Since 2011, the Victorian Government has phased in consistent duty reductions (starting from 20 per cent) to make it easier for people to buy their first home. This year, the final instalment of the reduction – 50 per cent – was rolled out on 1 September 2014.

In 2014-15, just over 11,460 FHOG grants were paid to Victorian home buyers, totalling $122 million.

Back to Work

The Back to Work Scheme encourages and supports employment growth in Victoria by providing financial assistance to business that employ eligible job seekers.

We are administering the scheme under the Back to Work Act 2015.
